AMERICAN SHAD / SMALL WATER STRIPED BASS / RIVER LARGEMOUTH

With years of scouting and the addition of new boats to our fleet, I am happy to roll out some new programs we will be offering this Spring season on the coastal rivers. My goal was to develop programs that can be more in depth than the typical offerings you find centered on the spring fisheries of the coastal rivers. These programs are designed for the intermediate to advanced anglers looking to test their skills and hunt for trophy fish in unique water.

AMERICAN SHAD

Over the years I have gotten many requests from folks looking to specifically target the large American Shad that migrate through our coastal river systems in the Spring. Ask any Shad angler and they can tell you that successfully targeting solely American Shad is not an easy task. Timing, river conditions, and locations all play an important role in knowing how to catch these fish. However, the work is worth the reward- American Shad are incredibly hard fighting fish that can reach impressive sizes in our coastal rivers. This year I will be offering trips to anglers to specifically target these trophy sized Shad. We will utilize both rafts and jet boats to access the right water at the right time. These trips will be offered from March 15th through April 10th. All these trips will be full days (8-12 hours) with our usual lunch and drink program provided.

STRIPED BASS

It’s no secret that the Roanoke River in Weldon is Mecca for Striped Bass fishing in April and May. Anglers from all over the country flock to the river to target these fish- and while the fishing has remained good, the crowds of anglers can definitely detract from the experience of a river trip. Luckily Weldon is not the only place in eastern North Carolina to target these awesome gamefish during the spring season. We’ve branched out and discovered some locations that are incredibly fun fishing- without the crowds. These trips are done drift boat style- anglers will cast from a moving boat at likely structure and holding areas using streamers and top water flies. This water is typically much smaller than the Roanoke and fly anglers can rejoice in using lighter fly lines opposed to the heavy lead lines employed in Weldon. These trips don’t always provide the crazy volume that the Weldon fishery can be known for, but instead, quality fish on a wild river in relative seclusion. We will be offering these trips from April 11th through June 10th. These trips are offered in ¾ days (6+ hours) and full days (8-12 hours) with lunch included.

LARGEMOUTH BASS

Folks that have fished with me have likely heard me talk about our often overlooked Largemouth Bass fishery in the coastal rivers. This program takes us to some beautiful sections of our rivers and tributaries that rarely see any angling pressure. Our rivers can grow some very quality fish and these river grown bass pull incredibly hard. Aggressive, visual eats on the fly rod make for some of the most fun you can have during the spring months, with a very low chance of encountering another angler on the river. A great aspect of this program is that you can target both the resident Largemouth and the migratory Striped Bass at the same time in the same sections of river. Currently we have well over 200 miles of river and creeks to target these fish in, with each section being unique in structure and size. This is a great way to explore some of the overlooked areas in eastern North Carolina while catching quality fish on the fly. We’re offering these trips from March 15th through June 10th. These trips are offered in ¾ days (6+ hours) and full days (8-12 hours) with lunch included.

I'm very excited to show folks these new programs and to get people on some great fish this spring. If you have any questions about our new programs please don't hesitate to reach out!

Cheers,

Capt. Will Paul
