Fishing Report 02/23 Shad Season has begun

Writer's picture: Capt. Will PaulCapt. Will Paul

March is only a few days away and the migratory Shad have started to make their showing in our local waters. Water levels has been on the lower side but the incoming two should put us right where we need to be.

We have had success on the lower rivers catching decent numbers of Hickory Shad and a few American Shad mixed in. There‘s a great class of Hickory Shad in the river this season, we have released many 16“-18” fork length fish this week. We should begin to see more American Shad in the coming days once we can safely access the upper reaches of the river.

Our calendar is getting full for the season and I’m excited to show people one of eastern North Carolina‘s most unique fisheries. I still have a few openings for the season-

03/03, 03/04, 03/10, 03/12, 03/26, 03/28, 04/01

After we wrap up Shad fishing this year we will be right onto Spring Striper season! It’s snapping up to be another great spring- I’m looking forward to seeing everyone on the water this season.

cheers,

Capt. Will
